At the core of Dunia Designs is our commitment to giving consumers an honest and truly impactful product. All of our products are made from a material called greenwood. Greenwood is created completely from low-grade plastic waste, that is often not used for recycling and is left to pollute our environment.
By using greenwood to create our collections we forego the use of wood and thus prevent the felling of trees. These trees are then left to grow and continue to sequester CO2 from the atmosphere, a gas which contributes to global warming.
Each and every purchase from Dunia Designs saves trees and cleans the environment of waste plastic. In order for our customers to know exactly what impact they are making, we have developed an equation to show exactly how many trees have been left standing as a result of their purchase.

Our equation is based on the Mninga tree, a commonly used hardwood in furniture-making. On average, a mature Mninga tree produces 30 planks of timber, which is the same dimension as our Greenwood planks.
By calculating how many Greenwood planks are used to make each piece of Dunia furniture, we can show how much timber has been foregone.
How is greenwood made?
In order to create greenwood, plastic waste is collected from streets, rivers, oceans and rubbish dumps. It is then cleaned and shredded before being put into an extrusion machine which compresses and heats the waste to form a greenwood plank. These planks are then used by our carpenters as a wood-substitute to create beautiful furnishing pieces.
