Using your purchasing power to make sustainable choices

The buying choices you make really can have an impact on protecting the planet. A serious plus about being a consumer who cares about the environment is that there is proven research to show that when consumers really think about their purchase and the product, business and packaging, their choice is significantly narrowed down!

The following findings show that when a purchaser is faced with too much choice ‘while it can be liberating, at its core, it is closely linked to the feeling of loss. If your customers choose something, it inherently means sacrificing something else.’ (https://zoovu.com/blog/psychology-choice-customers-need-assistance) It goes on to say that ‘If consumers cannot make a decision, it is extremely unlikely that they will make a purchase.’

The beauty of choosing sustainably is that no one should be sacrificing – not the planet, the land, those working in the production, retail or marketing of the product, nor the customer themselves! Another plus is that, tragically, as of yet, most major brands and players in the market, still do not embody ethical practices, including their packaging, ingredient list, and carbon footprint. There is still very little choice out there for shoppers in the authentically green space.

How did we give a second life to waste plastics?

We started Dunia to help to reinvent how people build and furnish their homes, by providing access to environmentally friendly, high quality, stylish products and promote a circular economy.

One of our main aims is to close the loop between production and waste, making consumers active participants in environmental protection by giving a second life to waste plastics. In this way, the enterprise is helping consumers to strike a key balance between lifestyle quality and sustainability. By tapping off waste plastic and feeding it back into the global demand for home and lifestyle products, Dunia Designs contribute to a reduction in both deforestation and plastic waste.

Dunia Designs has been working at the forefront of innovation into plastic recycling and changes in consumer choices since our inception. By offering high-quality desirable products, the enterprise is tapping into the burgeoning market of socially responsible consumers. In the four years since its inception, our enterprise has proved the concept of a market-based solution towards environmental protection and genuinely sustainable consumer behaviours.

A global commitment to reducing plastic waste

Our Dunia enterprise is ideally positioned to take advantage of commitments by the international community as well as African Governments, to establish policies and create programmes that are geared towards a plastic-free continent.  The UN ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’ campaign has, for example, begun to mobilise the continent to come together and clean up plastics in land and water ecosystems. Africa stands out as a continent where most countries have adopted a total ban on the production and use of plastic bags.

One key element of choosing eco-friendly products is that the more we all individually use our purchasing power - ‘the power of one’, the more WE drive the market. Companies have to sit up and listen to what the customer wants – remember that our purchasing decision lines their pockets! “The products we use in our daily lives require immense amounts of energy and materials for production, making our responsible purchasing decisions more influential than ever. Businesses are in a unique position to lead the charge against climate change… Demand for a more sustainable future will continue to influence companies’ sustainability commitments.” https://apnews.com/article/9ccbf15e5bc546e79978ca728dd5fad5
