Have yourself a very Conscious Christmas
I have always had a funny relationship with Christmas. I love the lights, the buying/giving, the parties, fun and togetherness. But some old part of me remembers the essence and what felt missing.
For some religions, the end of a new year comes at different times of the calendar, but for us, Irish Founders, it is December. I grew up a Christian, but then began to teach a type of theology through my work and realized the core ethos was around treating your neighbor as you would yourself. That, and rebirth.
Just imagine if this neighbor was every living, breathing creature on our divine planet. And this end of year no matter what denomination, was the potential to be the new careful beginning of our gorgeous earth; respecting everything on it by our choices; be it water usage, energy sources, diet, travel and the choices around that what we buy.
This was core to the idea behind Dunia. The customer wanting our products didn’t have to make a sacrifice on beauty or design, nor to think about it. And those coming to search for us; an ethical brand giving a solution to home furnishing had been created.
But for those ticking off their list this Christmas, wanting to shower love on their beloved, we would ask you to choose wisely and sustainably this Christmas. Choosing presents that may stand the test of time and try and draw from various types of giving - not just those that could be wrapped. There are so many essential charities and organizations working for the conservation of our earth, now more than ever. Why not buy a tree, save an acre, protect dying breeds of plants/animals/insects and more? Try not to go overboard with over-produced and overpackaged (in cardboard and plastic) items. Perhaps wrap your presents in kids school artwork.

Spend wisely. Save for what we truly need. Think about purchasing plant-conscious presents that are built to last, are meaningful, and not bought just for the sake of it.
There is nothing worse than being preached at…but in this case, there is no preacher and no ‘bold’ student. There is only our one true Gaia; the trees that host the birds, the waters that roll the hills and land, the animals that feed their thirst from this, and the fish that literally turn the tides for us.
